Here are some great volunteering opportunities with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB), especially for Arabic, Cantonese and Mandarin speakers...



Hello GVFB Volunteers,

Translator Activity Volunteer
Do you speak Arabic, Cantonese or Mandarin as well as English. We have a weekly shift on Thursdays from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm in South Vancouver. Translations will take place during activities such as: Food Demos and Educational activities about food.  Volunteers will receive training and support. This is a new volunteer opportunity and your supervisor is Amy Weeks. Please email suzys@foodbank.bc.ca  if you are interested in this volunteer opportunity.

Individual Food Sorts
The first time you attend the food sort you will also attend the orientation portion. After the first session you can volunteer for the food sort as much as you like.  There are three sessions per month, here is the link for the dates https://www.foodbank.bc.ca/our-careers/volunteer-orientationindividual-sorting-sessions/Please sign up for all individual food sorts with Suzy at suzys@foodbank.bc.ca as there is limited space in each session. 

Information Services Team Members
Our new Information Services Volunteer Team supports all areas of the systems development life cycle to help create long-term solutions that ease the day-to-day collection, processing and administration of information. We are looking for people with skills or interests in business and systems analysis, programming, testing, system and user documentation.  One shift per week either 9 am to 1 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm from Monday to Friday.  Please email suzys@foodbank.bc.ca   if you are interested in this volunteer opportunity.

Front of House
You will be assisting members directly in this member services role at our head office. There are three shifts available: Monday mornings, Monday afternoons or Tuesday mornings. Please email trishk@foodbank.bc.ca   about this volunteer opportunity.

Community Food Hubs Operational Assistant
Are detail orientated and have great organizational skills, then this is a great position for you. This role includes weekly preparation of our Volunteer Care Packages and monthly tidying of our equipment bins.  The shift is on Fridays at our head office from 12:00 to 4:00 pm.  Please email trishk@foodbank.bc.ca    about this volunteer opportunity.

  • Mt. Pleasant (East Van) Friday mornings – Outside Captain and 2 distribution volunteers needed
  • St. Timothy’s (Burnaby-Brentwood) Thursday mornings we need a co-coordinator (team leader)
  • Gordon Neighbourhood House (Downtown Vancouver) Friday mornings – we need a co-coordinator (team leader)
  • St. Margaret’s (East Van) Tuesday mornings 2 more volunteers are needed
  • New Westminster – Starting in April on Thursdays- mobile registration volunteer and back up needed
  • St. Paul’s (Downtown Vancouver) Wednesday mornings- distribution volunteer and back up registration volunteer needed
