Working in Canada

Hi LINC 7 Students,

Here's a 6 minute video about how to handle "Tell me about yourself" in a job interview.
Here, the lecturer emphasize "E. E. S." .... discuss your Education, Employment and Skills.
Plan your answer. Find out what the interviewer wants in an employee.

Here's a 3 minute video about how to answer the question: "What's your biggest weakness?"

For the weekend:

Here's an interesting video from the Canadian Immigrant website. It features Stéfan Danis, CEO and chief talent officer of the staffing firm Mandrake. He addresses the issue of upgrading skills by "going back to school." His answer might surprise you!

Stéfan also discusses how employers often listen more for the ENERGY of the interviewee, rather than the CONTENT of what they are saying. So you should try to discuss activities that you are PASSIONATE about in your interview. Focus on your real personal interests and passions. Perhaps you and the interviewer will "click" on a common interest or passion in life. Then you'll be remembered and perhaps considered for the position!  Stéfan says, “It’s always easier to be remembered for being different than for being better.”

If you or someone you know is feeling burned out (depressed, tired, exhausted) from searching for a job unsuccessfully, here are some possible solutions and strategies. Note that strategy number 7 is about volunteering, while number 10 is about networking, things we have discussed in class.
