The Whale

Hi LINC 7 Students,

On Thursday this week, we'll join other LINC classes to watch the documentary The Whale.

Boys Club Network

Hi LINC 7 students,

Today, we were discussing "at risk" boys. Here's the link to the Boys Club Network. It was founded by two Vancouver secondary school educators.

Some Canadian boys and young adults are losing their innocence, happiness and basic human potential because of drugs, gangs, violence, crime, depression, suicide and hopelessness. The Boys Club Network helps these young men, who often have no mentors or positive role models.

Contemporary society has, in many cases, left boys behind. With more opportunities for girls and young woman, many young men are in trouble.

The Boys Club Network helps these boys find their way, find themselves, and finish school. The BCN mentors help them channel destructive behaviour, frustration and anger into positive behaviour, responsibility and empathy.

Currently the Network is operating in the school districts in East Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Courtenay, and Abbotsford.

More on Compassion Communication

Hi LINC 7 Students,

Here's the link to a 8 minute clip of Marshall Rosenberg explaining an example of Compassion Communication in a marriage.

He points out that if couples skip the step of clearly stating their NEEDS, and try to find a SOLUTION without expressing their real needs, then often they fail.

However, if the couple can genuinely communicate their needs, without jumping to "strategies" for a solution, they can succeed. "The solution finds them."

In the video, the couple has problems with the family spending. Marshall helps the couple identify their basic needs -- separate from their judgements.

Compassionate Communication

Hi LINC 7 Students,

Here's the link to the full workshop done by Marshall Rosenberg, the man who created Nov-Violent Communication or Compassionate Communication.

It's a very long video (over 3 hours) but I encourage you to listen from 29:30 on. In this section of the video, Marshall discusses how harsh criticism, insults, judgements and negative remarks that come from another person are actually just ways of saying "Please....." (i.e. a jackal way of asking for what they want).
